  • Kari Jarvinen (FIN) Kari Järvinen got his first dog at the age of eight in 1957. Kari has had dogs of many breeds. He started breeding with a beagle and with his late wife Raija they bred Scottish and West Highlandterriers with great success. His own breed is however Boxer. He got the enthusiasm for boxers when he was handling Gitta Ringwalls boxer in shows. Most memorable and most famous of his boxers was Wedge Hollow’s Sam’s Son, in early seventies. To get Sam from the breeder he had to sell his little car. After selling Sam to Sweden Kari could afford to buy a bigger car. When judging in England in the seventies he saw Agility competitions and introduced it here. And in the mid-eighties, with the sponsorship of his employer, he was able to arrange the first training course for judges and invited a coach from England. Now agility gathers most entries and Finnish Agility competitors have been very successful in international games. Kari started also Junior Handling activities in Finland. This was in 1973. Kari started his own judging career in 1972, became all-rounder in 1991 as a first Finnish judge. In Finland it takes a long time to get rights to judge all breeds. You cannot buy the rights to judge: you study and pass exams breed by breed and advance to groups. Kari has judged in 83 countries all over the world. And he has enjoyed it enormously. When travelling he was always kept his eyes open for new concepts and looked for good dogs for himself or breeder friends. Kari loves to judge dogs and doing so in different countries he has adopted ideas how to arrange good dog shows, better than those before. It has always been a challenge to catch up with the quality of Stockholm, where annual winner shows are the utmost top class. All this gathered information has been useful when Kari with his brilliant teams has been organizing Finnish Kennel Clubs’ international dog show over 30 years as a Chairman of the Show committee. Kari has said that the highlight and the most magnificent moment in his judges life was 1998 in the Helsinki FCI World Dog show. Kari was BIS judge and found the most gorgeous and beautiful Papillion for the winner of that memorable show. Kari revived FCI’s Judges and show committee in the early nineties. And he was elected into the board of directors of FCI in 1995 and has kept the seat for 19 years. He has represented Finland on the board of Nordic Kennel Union longer than anybody else, twice as a chairman. And he gave considerable help to assist the Estonian Kennel Club to make a new start in 1990ies. He has been a Member of the Kennel Club since 1999. He has honorary golden decorations from the FCI, from all the Northern countries and Estonia. In the Finnish Kennel Club, Kari has been serving on the Board of Directors in several periods since 1970ies, longer than anyone else and out of these 10 years as a vice president and three years as a Chairman of the Council. He has been honorary member of the Finnish Kennel Club since 2010. In 2007 Kari negotiated with the Russian Kennel Club an unique agreement, where Russian red Laikas (Karelian-Finnish Laika) and Finnish national breed Finnish Spitz were united into one breed and recognized as Finnish Spitz. This is the first time in history that dogs which lived on opposite sides of a man-made border, but which had common origins, have been acknowledged as one and the same breed. Kari’s dog career stretches back over 50 years. During this period in Finland the number of registered dogs have quadrupled and we have 10 times more members. This means that three Finns out of hundred are members of Finnish Kennel Club.

  • Kim Ramey-Leblanc (CAN) I purchased my first dog, a Siberian Husky male in 1973. He, fortunately for us, was of good enough quality to become our first champion and sired our first litter. That was the beginning of Snowmist Siberians. My timing could not have been better for getting involved in this breed as many of the most famous kennels and their founders were still in existence. My mom and I had a short-lived trial with Alaskan Malamutes and decided they were not for us. But the adventure with other breeds continued and we enjoyed a Newfoundland and a few Salukis. During this time I handled many different breeds. In 1980 my husband brought American Foxhounds into the picture, we still have them today along with the Siberians. I am still actively showing and breeding on a small scale. Our kennel (Snowmist Siberians) has been highly successful in Canada and around the world. My husband and I competed in sled dog races winning our fair share of awards up until the fall of 1996 when family and business commitments forced us to retire. While racing, we actively participated in the Canadian Kennel Clubs Sled Dog Certificate Program earning over 90 titles. Our dogs have numbered in the top for our breed on many occasions including Top Siberian 1986 & 1987 with BIS, BISS Am/Can Ch. Snowmists Mai Tai, Top Siberian 1994 BIS Ch. Kakomas Better Than Average and topped the charts again in 2001 with BIS Ch. Snowmists Eternal Flame. In 2008 Daviks Snowmist Ice Fox in a few short months of shows made it to #4 Siberian and followed that up with an AOM at the 2009 Westminster KC show. In 1993 and 1994 the Siberian Husky Club of Canada awarded our lead dog Northstars Snowmist Birch C.D., S.D.U. the Ward Young Trophy for successfully competing in sled dog racing, showing and obedience within one club year. This was the first time any dog had won this award in back to back years. I am a graduate of the canine course Dogs, A Hobby or Profession created by the late Casey Gardiner. Included in this educational program was a course on structure that taught structure based on a measuring process. I have used this process to improve my own knowledge, to help others understand what they see and to evaluate litters of puppies and grown dogs. I have conducted all breed measuring clinics as well as seminars on this topic. Today I am a licensed All Breed Canadian Kennel Club judge. I began my judging career officially in 1994. Since that time I have had the honor of judging in my own country (Canada), Australia, Belgium, China, England, France, Finland at the Winner 2000 Show, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Lithuania, New Zealand, Spain, and the United States of America. Specialties I’ve had the pleasure of judging include the Rocky Mountain Siberian Husky Club, the Belgian Siberian Husky Club (twice), Saint Bernard Club of Ontario, Great Pyrenees Club of Central Ontario, Alaskan Malamute Club of NSW Inc., The Siberian Husky Club of NSW Inc., the first ever back to back Siberian Husky Club of Great Britain Championship shows, the National Specialty for Nordic Breeds (Spain), the Briard Club of America, Inc. (regional), the Nordic Breed Club of Lithuania and the 8e Reunion Nationale d’Elevage du Siberian Husky France as well as several others. I have been an active member for many years of the all breed club, Barrie Kennel & Obedience Club Inc. I have held such positions as President, Show Chair Person, and Judges Selection Committee. Currently I hold the position of President. I served as the Canadian Kennel Club Director for Zone 4 - Ontario North from 2004 through 2008. Murphy (USA) I was born into the Sport.  My Grandfather, my father and two uncles were professional handlers.  As a very young teenager I spent every weekend at dogs shows, showing my own dogs and working with handlers. In high school and college I worked part time for the American Kennel Club  I started to judge in 1976 and was still very active breeding and showing my Chows. I have judged on every Continent of the World. My first judging assignments in China were close to twenty years ago.  These first assignments were for shows put on by individual people. Then I judged many shows for the China Kennel Club.  I have seen the development of the Sport in China over the last twenty years.  The CKU has become one of the leading Kennel Clubs of the World.  So many breeds are so very strong in China and are competing at the top levels in the States and around the world. I am very honored to be on the panel for this World Show.  The panel consists of the finest judges in the World today.  This show is such great P.R. for the Sport of Dogs in China. • Cristian Stefanescu (ROU) Since he was young, there were always dogs in the family. Cristian’s grandfather brought about his general love of dogs as he was a huge dog lover who also offered him his first dog, a small, red spitz type. Cristian started to breed English Cocker Spaniels in 1988 and this was followed by American Staffordshire Terriers since 2001, Miniature Bull Terriers and very recently Chihuahua with his wife Madalina. He first went to a dog show in Bucharest in 1981 and it was the decisive moment in his evolution in the canine world! That was when Cristian was “infected” with this virus and he believes that it will never “heal”! He bred English Cocker Spaniels for 15 years. A lot of Cristian’s breeding received excellent results, both in national and international shows. He has managed to monitor them up to the fourth and fifth generation. Unfortunately, due to judging invitations and commitments, Cristian had to curtail breeding, but continued as a dog owner. It is better to know when to stop rather than do things half-way. Cristian became an FCI judge in the year 1992 and an all-rounder judge in 2005. He has the approval to judge all FCI recognized breeds and he has had the honour and pleasure to judge in these last years at many major European and World FCI dog shows, and almost all FCI countries around the world. Since 1988 Cristian was the secretary of the English Cocker Spaniel Club in Bucharest and since 1996 until 2005 he was the General Secretary of the Romanian Kennel Club. Cristian is now the President of the Romanian Kennel Club and Chairman of the Metropolitan Area of Bucharest Kennel Club. He is also member of the FCI Judges Commission, Working Group for FCI Reformation and AKC recognized overseas judge and member of American Dog Shows Judges Association. Cristian says the most important thing is that you truly love the DOG. If there is this feeling, the rest just comes naturally, with a lot of hard work and lots of passion. A lot of time must be dedicated to study and exemplary behaviour towards exhibitors and the organizers. Each moment of judging brings him a huge responsibility for what he says and does.
